{"id":191,"date":"2017-10-17T10:18:45","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T10:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nutri.info\/?p=191\/"},"modified":"2017-10-17T10:19:02","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T10:19:02","slug":"world-health-organization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nutri.info\/en\/world-health-organization\/","title":{"rendered":"World Health Organization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the\u00a0<b>World Health Organization<\/b>\u00a0(<b>WHO<\/b>) is an agency of the\u00a0<i>United Nations<\/i>, acting as a coordinating authority on international public health.\u00a0<b>WHO<\/b>\u00a0was established by the\u00a0<i>UN<\/i>\u00a0on April 7, 1948.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The constitution of\u00a0<b>WHO<\/b>\u00a0defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and does not consist only of the absence of disease or infirmity.\u00a0<b>WHO<\/b>\u00a0is a global organization that promotes this concept of health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">After years of fighting smallpox,\u00a0<b>WHO<\/b>\u00a0declared in 1979 that the disease had been eradicated. It is nearing success in developing vaccines against malaria and schistosomiasis and aims to eradicate polio within the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Other than actually curing already occurring diseases, the Organization also puts great effort into producing articles on the cause of diseases. In addition to their work in eradicating disease, the\u00a0<b>WHO<\/b>\u00a0also carries out campaigns \u2014 for example, to boost consumption of vegetables worldwide, or adopting a negative stance towards tobacco \u2013 and conducts research: for instance, into whether or not the electromagnetic field surrounding cell phones has a negative influence on health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Members of the\u00a0<i>UN\u00a0<\/i>appoint delegations to the\u00a0<b>World Health Assembly<\/b>, which votes for the\u00a0<b>WHO Director General<\/b>.
